Bruce George: Renown Poetry Laureate is the "Man With The Literary Midas Touch"
Bruce George is the mastermind Founder/Managing Editor of The Bandana Republic. The most anticipated complied work of the millennium is an Anthology of Poetry and Prose from Gang Members and Affiliates that has created a major buzz in the literary industry and even in the urban streets as the next big project from the Co-Founder of Def Poetry Jam, and sure to earn more critical acclaim for the Man With The Midas Touch. Recent visitors of www.bruce george media. com and www.def poetry jam. com will get to witness the man often caught behind the scenes judging the fiercest poetry slam contests nationwide, finally receive a Honorable YOUnity Guild Award on July 25th, 2004 at The Emma C. Brisbane Youth Center for his outstanding contribution to the literary world.
A subtle, and unassuming giant in the literary and entertainment industry, many people may not know that Bruce George was the executive consultant to Def Poetry Jam on Broadway, which helped them earn a Tony Award. As an ex- gang member of over 4 gangs he admits to joining gang life as a by-product of his environment. Bruce George also, found the need to bring the voices of gang members to the forefront as an educational tool, and thorough documentary of those original gang members who are still living. Bruce also, helps to shed light on those gang members who were not criminals, but rather protective soldiers in their communities and may have saved many families from harm and urban warfare from other gang members. Some went on to leave gang life behind or are still gang members.
Bruce George, who is to be commended, has taken on the biggest and most dangerous task to recruit participating gangster writers for the Bandana Republic cumulative anthology, while other prospects may have recently slipped through the cracks and will hopefully be reminisced by many stories of living members. Bruce George mentions that the stories of gang members, a dying breed, must be told as a historical document of a sub-culture that is often stereo-typed rather than analyzed and understood as a product of societal oppression.
Upon interviewing the soft spoken, and hardly threatening or gang-like reminiscent demeanor of Bruce George who has been spotted spearheading big projects such as The Lyric's Lounge Poetry Showdown on BET along with QBR: The Black Book Review’s Max Rodriguez, it is apparent that the man is an avid poet himself with daily rituals that require discipline. He is a big health and fitness guru, and reads tons of books. His words quote poetical mentors and teach those who meet him to have a passion for their work or don't step to him. Too many people have cited business proposals to Bruce George, but his ability to execute tasks requires action, and not talk. If Bruce George says he is going to compile an anthology reflecting real Gangster's lives, you better believe the job will get done.
Bruce George is a pioneer in an untapped literary arena that everyone is guessing will set a monumental mark with a poetical vibe. Look out for the progress of The Bandana Republic by visiting www.Defpoetryjam.com. The support base is already following Bruce George, who has been featured in News Day and honored with a splurge of many new awards as if he doesn't already have enough honors. The difference is, gangsters are honoring him as well, an unprecedented event in Gangster History.
